En aquellos primeros afios de la Radio, el ser locutor era "pertenecer a una clase especial", de jóvenes cultos, amigos de la lectura, interesados en las artes, yen aprender, dia a dia, mas y Inas. Eran jóvenes talentosos, con unas voces privilegiadas, y una habilidad extraordinaria para leery bien decir.
VIENEN VEINTE EMISORAS MAS... En la década de 1941 al 1950 surgieron mas de veinte emisoras de Radio en Puerto Rico. Las primeras cinco, claro esta, ya habían afianzado su prestigio y continuaban ganándose el favor público. Había competencia, pero una competencia respetuosa, profesional... Empezaron a hacerse programas, "en cadena", originando una emisora de San Juan y, sumándose a ella, otras estaciones de la Isla. En el 1942 surgió WIAC, en San Juan; en el 1945, la WKVM, en Arecibo. En el 1946, la WPBP, la WKJB y la WECW, en Mayagüez. En el 1947 surgieron la WAPA y la WIBS, en San Juan; la WMDD, en Fajardo; la WCMN, en Arecibo; la WRIA, en Caguas; la WORA, en Mayagüez; y la WRSJ, en San Juan. También se inauguraron en el alio 1947, la WENA, en Arecibo; y la WVJP, en Caguas. En el 1948 empiezan a transmitir la WITA y la WEMB, en San Juan; la WAEL, en Mayagüez; y la WXRF, en Guayama. La WIPR, la estacion del Gobierno, se inauguro en el 1948, también. Al alio siguiente surgieron la WRAI y la WUNO. VIENEN VEINTE EMISORAS MAS... The station was assigned the WCHQ call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on December 23, 1970.
The company has had multiple ownership changes. Camuy Broadcasting Corporation sold WCHQ to Del Pueblo Radio Corporation in 1984. At that time, the station was known as "13-Q AM". On July 25, 2000, Del Pueblo Radio Corporation announced that it would sell WCHQ to Aurio A. Matos. The deal was completed on July 30, 2000. On December 28, 2003, after 33 years on the air, WCHQ went silent and was forced to shut down. On April 5, 2004, the station's license was cancelled and the call sign deleted from its database by the FCC.
